Vacancies now for sorters, shelf fillers, packers, delivery drivers and client support

A drive to recruit more volunteers for the main areas of the Food Hub’s operation has just been launched. Extra volunteers are required NOW to:

  • Sort donations and refill the Food Hub’s shelves at Purley United Reformed Church on Monday mornings.
  • Drive and deliver the bags to two or three clients’ homes on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Pack food parcels for clients on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
  • Support clients face to face or on the phone and direct them to specialist agencies for other vital help – for example, debt management.

No previous experience is needed – all necessary training is given ‘on the job’ and we can also arrange taster sessions for would-be volunteers who want to see what’s involved.

Please get in touch if you can help, or kindly spread the word to family members, friends and colleagues. For more information and a volunteer application form, contact Jean Ludlow, our Administrator, on 07546 635295 or email

Completed forms should be returned to Salli Ransom, Volunteer Co-ordinator, at

Purley Food Stop at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church is also seeking two or three volunteers to join its Warm Welcome team on Friday mornings.

Rev Nick Graves said: “Our sessions are built around a welcoming atmosphere. We provide much-needed food and drinks to attendees, many of whom may have been queuing for a while without anything to eat or drink.

“The Warm Welcome service plays a vital role. It breaks down barriers, makes people feel valued and allows our support team to connect with them in a more relaxed setting.

“Unfortunately, we’re currently facing a volunteer shortage for setting up and running this service. Ideally, we’d like one additional person each week to join the existing team and help out, potentially on a rotating schedule, from 7.45 – 11.30am on Fridays.

“Building a team around Frank Widdowson (who co-founded the Food Hub in 2013) would greatly ease the burden and ensure the service continues smoothly.

“If anyone might be interested in lending a hand, or has any questions or needs further information, please contact me at”
