Special thanks to youngsters who ran, swam and cycled to raise £2,200 for Food Hub.
Eight of the 26 children who took part in the charity triathlon organised by nine-year-old Shayan and his family on Easter Saturday were presented with their Food Hub thank-you certificates by Management Committee Acting Chair Louise Willmer during a behind-the-scenes visit in August.
The children swam, cycled and ran their way to raise a total of £2,270. During their visit to the Food Hub, Shayan (in yellow top) readily agreed to us splitting the money equally with Purley and St Francis Food Stops and The Link Food Bank, New Addington, each organisation receiving £567.50.
Richard Millar, on behalf of Purley Food Stop, said: “Thank you so much for your kindness – we are seeing our costs rise, like everybody else of course, as demand on our resources is increasing.” St Francis Food Stop’s Michelle Wyatt added: “That is very kind. We have just found out that our energy bills are going up yet again – a five-fold increase in a year! I expect everyone else has similar issues.”
