Coffee, sugar and tinned meat are top of our list of ‘most needed’ items in March

During these financially tough times the Food Hub remains ever grateful for the generous donations that our loyal supporters provide on such a regular basis.

“We thank you for each tin, jar, bottle and packet that you donate – each one goes to help someone in the local area going through a time of crisis,” says Louise Willmer, our Stock Controller who chairs the Management Committee.

In March, our list of Top 10 priority items is headed by small jars of coffee, small 500g bags of sugar, and tinned meat such as beef, chicken and ham.
Jars of jam and tinned tomatoes are also required, along with packet custard needing only water and tinned rice pudding.

Although a lot of tins today have ring pulls, many still don’t, so our clients continue to require good-quality tin openers please. Two other non-food items on our most wanted list are unisex deodorant and J-Cloths & kitchen sponge scourers.

Donations can be brought to the Food Hub at Purley United Reformed Church (next to Purley Hospital) any Monday, Wednesday and Saturday morning between 9.00am – 12.00noon. Or they can be dropped off at any of our local in-store and roadside collection points listed here.

Since the Food Hub started in January 2013, the kind generosity of our supporters has enabled us to provide food to just over 38,000 clients and family members – equivalent to more than 340,000 meals.
