A trip down Memory Lane as we pay tribute to the drivers who always went the extra mile.Â
On 21st February we passed another landmark when our twice-weekly home delivery service reached the end of the road.
Home deliveries started in April 2020 as a response to Covid but now, six years on, clients once more come to Purley URC in person to collect their food parcels.
As we move from deliveries to collections, we pay tribute to all the drivers and escorts who so faithfully delivered food to clients’ homes over the years.
Always cheerful, they truly delivered the goods in all weather and traffic conditions.
Often that meant carrying heavy bags up one, two or more floors on arrival, then going the extra mile by making a return journey should they find the client not at home.
So a HUGE thank you to, among others: Andrea; Ann; Annabel, James, Gilbert & Ernest; Bill; Chunhua, Ben & Grace; Ciara & Kieran; Corinne; Darren; David; Denise; Eddie; Fiona; Graham; Howard & Marjorie; John; John & Sally; Jonny; Justin; Karen; Karen & Debbie; Lynda; Michael & Nicholas; Nalyni & Saieshwar; Nevile & Tom; Noel; Pauline & Steve; Pete & Sally; Phil & Cynthia; Richard, Nikki & Sophia; Salli; Sara & Martin; Steve & Marili; Sue; Trish & Simon.
Looking ahead, although home deliveries have ceased, we will continue to maintain a reduced pool of drivers, delivering to clients who are housebound and cannot get someone to collect on their behalf. They will also help with collecting donations from schools, businesses and local groups at peak times such as Easter, Harvest and Christmas.
