Thank you to all our donors – your generosity provides a lifeline to those in need

In July we were able to deliver food for 2,619 meals to nearly 300 clients and family members in Purley, South Croydon, Coulsdon and Waddon – our second highest July total.

An agency which referred one of these clients to us has emailed to say: “[He] is still in food crisis. His stroke continues to affect his day to day mobility and he has a number of other ongoing medical issues. He recently had local council funding cut and at the moment the weekly food delivery is a LIFELINE for him.”

So a big thank you to everyone who kindly responded to our July appeal for food donations. As a result we not only had a good supply for our own clients but were again able to support our partner organisations, in particular Purley Food Stop at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church, which is currently experiencing issues with sourcing long life food due to the national shortage of haulage drivers. We were also able to support Monks Hill Food Stop at St Francis Church, Selsdon.

Some of our previous clients have moved on to there as their circumstances have improved and they are now able to afford the £3.50 a week fee for food worth up to £20.

Considering it is now holiday time, donations are keeping up well, so it is good that we are able to pass on any surplus to the Food Stops and also to Croydon Nightwatch.

The Food Hub has long supported Nightwatch, whose volunteers are out each night in Queen’s Gardens in central Croydon giving food and assistance to homeless and other vulnerable people. Our weekly donation of 60 tins of soup and 12 bags of pasta provides enough for two of their seven nights.

As always, huge thanks to ALL of our loyal donors: churches, schools, small shops and superstores, a whole host of community organisations, and of course many individuals and families. Your generosity makes all the difference.
