Corned beef, tinned meats and pasta sauce most needed in July – plus children’s treats!.

For families already struggling to make ends meet, July and August are difficult months when schools are closed and their children don’t get a school lunch.

So for July our food list targets not only our existing shortage areas but aims also to support our client families through the long summer holidays.

Topping our most-wanted list, again, is long life whole milk, followed by tins of corned beef, chicken and ham; pasta sauce in cartons; and tinned carrots.

We also need jars of jam, along with concentrated fruit squash (in small plastic discs if possible); tinned rice pudding; and puddings, jellies and Angel Delight.

Completing the month’s list are packets of sweet biscuits, while children’s sweet and chocolate treats would also go down a treat!  The non-food item most needed this month is shampoo.

You can kindly deliver your donations to Purley United Reformed Church, next to Purley Hospital, between 9.00am – 11.30am on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday mornings.

  • On Mondays please come to the open white doors at the end of the building in front of you from Brighton Road.
  • On Wednesdays and Saturdays please come to the brown doors on the right-hand (hospital) side of the building.

Donations can also be dropped off at any of our in-store and roadside collection points listed here. In real difficulty, we may be able to collect your donations – please email purleyfoodhub@gmail.com or text 07546 635295.

As well as the Food Hub, your donations also go to help support the two local Food Stops – at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church, Purley, and St Francis Church, Monks Hill, Selsdon – where our clients can get further help after receiving their emergency food bags from us.

We gratefully acknowledge the kind generosity of ALL of the Food Hub’s supporters – long term and more recent alike – and on behalf of our clients  are thankful for every tin, jar, packet, bottle and pound we receive.

It means that since we opened 13 years ago we have been able to provide food for nearly 48,000 people – the equivalent of over 430,000 meals
