Nearly 23,000 meals delivered in first six months of 2023 – 11% more than last year

After a run of very busy months at the Food Hub, June turned out to be our quietest month since July last year.

Nonetheless, food for 2,421 meals was delivered to 269 hard-pressed clients and family members during the month’s eight Wednesday and Saturday sessions, taking the total for the first half of 2023 to 22,940 – nearly 2,300 more than in the corresponding period last year.

To date, our marvellous donors and supporters have helped us to provide food for 310,905 meals for clients and their families since we started in 2013.

A number of our former Food Hub clients, after receiving four short-term, emergency food parcels from us, move on to Purley and St Francis Food Stops for ongoing food support if required.

At Purley Food Stop on a Friday morning, there is usually a queue of people outside ahead of the 9.00am opening time. Once inside, while they await to select their food items (£15-20 worth for a payment of £3.50), they can now relax in a more comfortable waiting area with free tea, coffee and snacks…served with a welcoming smile by one of the Food Hub’s co-founders and former Chair of Trustees, Frank Widdowson.
