Long-life whole milk again tops ‘most needed’ list as stocks of everyday items dwindle.
Last month was our busiest August on record, with food for 4,185 meals provided for 465 people in the nine Wednesday and Saturday sessions – our busiest month of 2024 so far.
As predicted, we had an increased number of families referred to us during August who were having difficulties feeding their children in the school holidays – resulting now in dwindling stocks of many everyday items on our shelves.
Louise Willmer, our Stock Controller, says: “It isn’t a mistake that there are some items on our September most-needed list that were also on the July and August lists. This reflects the pressures the long school holidays have put on our stock. Thank you to everyone who has generously donated over the holiday period. It is very much appreciated by our clients and their families.”
Cartons of long life full fat milk top September’s list, followed by small 500g packets of sugar, boxes and packets of dried potato and tins of tuna fish.
Small bottles of fruit squash are also listed together with jars of peanut butter and meat and fish paste, tins of dessert fruit and rice pudding and packets of sweet biscuits. Two non-food items specially needed are bars of soap and toilet rolls.

Donations can be brought to us at Purley United Reformed Church (next to Purley Hospital) on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9.00am – 12.00noon, or they can be dropped off at any of our in-store and roadside collection points listed here.
Your donations not only provide emergency help to our own clients and their families, but they also enable us to support the two local Food Stops at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church, Purley, and St Francis Church, Monks Hill, Selsdon, where many of our clients go for further food support if required.
To date, we have been able to provide food for over 360,000 meals for 40,000 people since we opened in 2013. Once again we say huge thanks to everyone for your continued generosity.
