Loyal supporters’ generosity has made a real difference to dwindling stock levels

Our loyal supporters’ generosity truly knows no bounds – some donate weekly, some monthly, others perhaps once or twice a year through collections at their school or place of work.

Yet whenever or how often you give, we and of course our clients remain ever grateful for every single can, jar, packet and pound received. During April, we were especially thankful for all the donations of items we were short of on our monthly list.

“This has made a real difference to our stock levels and so to the variety of food we can provide to our clients,” says our Stock Controller, Louise Willmer. “We cannot express adequately our gratitude to you, our generous supporters, for your continued loyalty over the past 11 years towards helping to ease the plight of clients and their families caught up in food crisis.”

In May, our focus for donations shifts back to our “staples” of long life whole milk, jam and honey, hot chocolate and tinned tuna – the most popular with our clients’ children.

Tinned vegetarian meals, microwave meals for toddlers aged 10 months+ and tins of rice pudding and fruit are also on our most wanted list. And two household essentials especially needed are unisex shampoo and washing powder tablets.

Donations can be brought to us at our base at Purley United Reformed Church, next to Purley Hospital, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9.00am – 12.00noon, or they can be dropped off at any of our local in-store and roadside collection points listed here.

Since the Food Hub opened in 2013, our supporters’ generous donations have enabled us to provide food for more than 38,750 people – equal to nearly 350,000 meals. So we say again: THANK YOU EVERYONE!
