Ticket partners’ views sought on implications after our quietest August since 2021.
The busy August that we had expected and planned for at the height of this year’s school summer holidays failed to materialise, with food for 1,710 meals supplied to 190 people.
This compares with 4,230 meals for 470 people just two years ago. It was our least busy August since 2021.
Since we switched to our new way of operation at the Food Hub in March 2026, the 12,220 meals provided for 1,358 people in the six months to the end of August are down by a third on the same period in 2025.
The Food Hub’s Trustees and Management Committee are looking into the likely reasons, such as the effect of reducing our food distribution days from two a week to one and the emergency food parcels to clients from four to three.
Of course, while reduced numbers are to be welcomed, at the same time we would not wish for anyone in food crisis to be missing out, and we will shortly be seeking the views of the agencies who refer clients to us.
Our new way of working will be reviewed, with questions invited, at our AGM on Thursday evening 15th October, to which all of our volunteers, friends and supporters are warmly invited – see panel below for details.
