Festive plans include Aldi vouchers for Christmas dinner and return of popular Toys for Joy scheme.
Churches Together in Purley and Kenley, Purley Food Hub’s parent organisation, will be supporting the local community again this Christmas with two projects, Come Dine with Jesus and Toys for Joy.
The Come Dine with Jesus project gives Aldi supermarket gift cards to local families so that they can buy the ingredients for a Christmas meal. Recipients will be nominated by the Food Hub’s ticket partners.
The gift cards are intended for households who may not be able to afford a traditional Christmas meal, and will not be valid for alcohol or lottery purchases. Accompanying the gift cards will be booklets with a Christian message.
We are also very pleased to announce that the Toys for Joy scheme, which had to be suspended during the Covid crisis, will be reinstated this year. We are appealing to supporters to either purchase a new toy for a child of any age up to 16 years, or donate money for toys to be bought.
The toys will be collected at Purley Baptist Church from Sunday 20th November until Friday 25th November. Purley Baptist is having a ‘Bring a Toy’ event at their 9.30 am and 11.15 am services on 20th November, and you can bring a toy to either of these services.
Alternatively, toys can be brought to the PBC Church Office in Banstead Road, Purley, from Monday 21st November until Friday 25th November between 10 am and 3 pm.
If you would like to make a financial contribution to either of these projects you can donate at our Stewardship online giving account and specify ‘Christmas Projects’ in the reference box. You can also scan this QR code to make a donation.
If you prefer to send a cheque please make this payable to Purley Food Hub, write ‘Christmas Projects’ on the reverse and send to Joanna Walker, Treasurer, Purley Food Hub, c/o Purley Baptist Church, Banstead Road, CR8 3EA.
Volunteers are also needed to help delivering the gift cards to clients early in December, and with handing out the donated toys at Purley Baptist Church on Saturday 3rd December when parents will be collecting them. Craft activities for the children and refreshments for all will be provided from 10am – 1pm.
For offers of help with either of these projects, or if you have any questions, please contact Jean Ludlow on 07546 635295 or email christmasprojects@pfoodhub.org.uk.
