Another 3,050 meals provided, taking the year’s total so far to nearly 20,000.
After the Food Hub’s busiest month of the year in May – when we provided food for close to 4,000 meals for 440 people – it was a much quieter June, with 3,050 meals for 339 people. Nevertheless it took the total meals provided in the first half of 2025 to just 400 short of 20,000 meals for 2,178 people.
The pattern was similar to previous months, with relatively quiet Wednesdays followed by very busy Saturdays. On Saturday 7th the volunteer team provided food for 70 people at 25 addresses across the south of the borough.
The packers included guest volunteers Juliette, 15, and friend Mimi, 14, doing their Duke of Edinburgh silver awards.
Juliette said: “It really helped my confidence with talking to new people and I feel good knowing I have helped people. The Food Hub has improved my leadership skills and overall knowledge – I would recommend it to anyone.” Mimi added: “It was a great experience, a lovely environment to be around, and I learnt to be grateful for everything I have.”
Saturday 14th was the busiest session of the month with food for 650-plus meals provided for 25 clients and 48 family members. A team of 26 volunteers was involved in the morning’s packing and delivery processes.
At our final session of the month on Saturday 28th, food was provided for 43 people.
The team included Colette, mum of regular volunteer Ciara. as standing in for husband Kieran, who was unwell.
She said afterwards: “The Food Hub team are very welcoming and I even bumped into a former work colleague I hadn’t seen for years. It makes you think how lucky you have been when you’re packing bare essentials for struggling families, some of them including very small children.”
