Increased demand matched by magnificent response to our annual Harvest appeal

Immediately after the Food Hub’s busiest-ever September came our busiest-ever October, with food for a further 4,050 meals delivered to 450 clients and family members facing hardship and crisis.

October was the sixth month in 2023 when we passed 4,000 meals and takes us to almost 38,5000 meals this year so far. It means that during November we are likely to pass last year’s total of 41,300 meals provided.

Thankfully the increasing need was matched by the amazing generosity of our supporters, with another magnificent response to our annual Harvest appeal.

A staggering 10,700 donated items were received at the Food Hub during October. As well as Harvest collections, the total included items dropped off in our yellow bins and at other collection points across Purley, South Croydon, Coulsdon and Wallington.

We were delighted to receive some huge Harvest collections from no fewer than 19 schools and one nursery. In addition we received food and money donations from 24 churches including several Harvest collections, among them a first-time food donation from the Romanian Baptista Betel church in South Croydon. Mulțumesc!

We share food and also money donations with other local food providers, including the Food Stops at Old Lodge Lane, Purley, St Francis, Selsdon, and Fieldway, New Addington.

Money donations are also used to buy items such as baby formula milk, larger-size nappies and other essentials that we don’t get sufficiently donated.

Listed below are all the schools and churches who donated during October. To them and to all the families, individuals, businesses and community groups who donate, thank you each and every one for your amazing support.
