More and more people in desperate need as cost of living crisis takes its toll.
Food for a further 2,400 meals was delivered in May to 266 Food Hub clients and family members, taking us past 16,000 meals provided so far this year.
That is an increase of just over 400 meals compared to the first five months of 2021.
As always, a huge thank-you to EVERYONE who donates food to us. We continue to support the Purley and St Francis (Monks Hill) Food Stops with fortnightly supplies of food and also meet occasional requests from Fieldway Food Stop, New Addington.
We also donate 60 tins of soup each week to Croydon Nightwatch, whose volunteers give out food to up to 100 homeless and vulnerable people every night in Queen’s Gardens.
Julia Lee (right), who heads our team of Client Support Volunteers, also works at Purley Food Stop. She said: “We are seeing more and more people at the Food Stop in desperate need. In the last three weeks I have talked to four women who are feeding their children but not themselves.
“People on meters for energy are particularly struggling because prices are even higher for them. These are dire times.
“We are also seeing a number of previous clients of the Food Hub now being referred back to us. This is not surprising – if they were struggling before, things will be worse now.””
