Drinking chocolate, sugar, dried potato and long life full fat milk most needed in January.

B-I-G thanks for the amazing response we received to our appeal in December for traditional Christmas food items and festive goodies for the Food Hub’s clients and their families.

On their behalf, we acknowledge with huge gratitude each of the wonderfully generous food and money donations dropped off by so many local people and organisations.

Thank you all very much indeed – with your help we provided food for 450 people…equivalent to over 4,000 meals. Now in January it is back to the regular staple items that we most need to refill our shelves.

Topping the month’s list is hot drinking chocolate needing only water, 500g packets of sugar, boxes/packets of dried potato and cartons of long life full fat milk. Tinned tuna and jars of peanut butter and meat & fish paste are also requested, along with tins of dessert fruit and rice pudding.

Three non-food items especially needed this month are small bottles of washing up liquid, bars of soap and toilet rolls.

We are open to receive donations at Purley United Reformed Church (next to Purley Hospital) on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9.00am to 12.00noon. Or, if it is more convenient, you can take donations to any of our local in-store and roadside collection points listed here.

Not only do your donations enable us to provide emergency help to our own clients but they also mean we can support our partner organisations, Purley Food Stop at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church and St Francis Food Stop in Monks Hill, Selsdon, where many of our clients move on to for further food help should they need it.

Since the Food Hub was opened by the Purley and Kenley Churches 12 years ago, we have been able to provide food for more than 375,000 meals for over 40,000 people. We are truly grateful for each can, packet, jar and pound that we receive.
